SYRACUSE – Senior running back Alex Rathje had 244 yards rushing, the Falls City defense held Syracuse to just eight total yards in the second half, and the Tigers beat their former Class C1-1 district rivals, 24-6, Friday night at Syracuse High School.
On 27 carries, Rathje scored twice leading Falls City to a team total of 271 yards on the ground. They finished with 312 total yards.
Syracuse sophomore Burton Brandt rushed for 78 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. The score, which came with 6:48 left to go in the first quarter, was the first points the Rockets scored this season.
The Tigers struck with 24 unanswered points, including touchdown runs of 72 yards and 16 yards from Rathje, a one-yard run from senior halfback Cade Schawang, and a 20-yard field goal from Lukas Aldana.
Syracuse (0-3) finished with 132 total yards. They’ll be at Oakland-Craig next Friday.
Falls City improves to 2-1 and will be at Fairbury next Friday.
