AUBURN – The Class C1-1 district title could very-well be on the line Friday night in Auburn.

The No. 6 Bulldogs (6-0), who are unbeaten through six games for the first time since their state championship season in 2006, host Lincoln Lutheran (4-2) at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in district play and the winner will put themselves in great position to claim the district championship. Auburn claimed the title last season.

The Warriors moved to Class C1 a year after qualifying for the C2 semifinals. However, a lot of those players either graduated or transferred, including quarterback Zach Clausen. He made the move to Lincoln East for his junior season.

With Auburn’s offense struggling to score the last two games (39 total points vs. Ashland-Greenwood and Nebraska City), Huskerland Prep Report Publisher Bob Jensen says their game with Lutheran will be the best test they’ve had so far.

“The one thing that remains consistent is that defense is sensational and I think that’s what wins it. I don’t think there will be a ton of points in this game. The more points there are the better chance Lincoln Lutheran’s got, I will say that. I think when it’s all said and done, Auburn gets number seven (win), but it could be pretty difficult.”

Jensen highlights Warrior junior wide receiver and defensive back Colby Bliss as a player to watch this week. Bliss has 39 receptions for 434 yards and five touchdowns. He also has 38 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries on defense.
