Central Kicks Off Raider Classic with Win

COLUMBUS – Central Community College is currently battling injuries to three starters, but kicked off the Ramada Classic on a high note.

#5 CCC downed Williston State in the opening match of the Ramada Classic in three sets, downing them 25-14, 25-12, and 25-19. Chainey Tompkin and Amber Anderson led the attack up front with 13 kills a piece. Maddie Davis has stepped in as the starting setter and marked 45 assists.

Raider Head Coach Mary Young says, “We started off the day with a good team win over Williston State with all players on our team contributing in the win.”

“In our last match, we ran into a confident KCK squad that played with a ton of confidence and we weren’t able to get into a good rhythm  and struggled at the net offensively.   We’ll regroup and hopefully find consistency in our play.”

The Raiders took on Kansas City Kansas CC in their second and final round of the night, where they fell in 4 sets. The Raiders battled close in all 3 dropped sets, and dominated in their lone win 25-13. Jacie Laetsch led the attack in the second match with 11 kills, with Tompkin scoring 10, and Lakeview graduate Morgan Iverson marking 10. Davis had 38 assists.

Scotus Alum Meaghan Pieper, along with Jessica Eurek and Paxton Throne are all Sophomore starters who have been sitting out due to injuries.

The Raiders play Bismarck State College, 11 a.m.,  and Iowa Central Community College, 5 p.m. at the Raider Field House on Saturday.

The #5 Raiders currently sit at 23-6 on the Season.
