In first state tournament game since 2001, Auburn takes advantage of 13 hits in victory

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Auburn grabbed an early lead on their way to a 6-4 victory over Bennington in the first round of the Class B Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament on Saturday in Nebraska City. It was their first state tournament game since 2001.

Auburn scored five runs on singles by Liam Raison and Colton Chapin in the first inning and singles by Cole Fossenbarger and Zach Dickerson in the second inning.

They finished with 13 hits in the game. Fossenbarger, Brandon Lavigne, Chapin, and Dickerson each collected multiple hits for Auburn Juniors. Fossenbarger went 3-4.

Seth Zimmerman earned the complete game win. He gave up four runs, ten hits, struck out two and walked one.

Colton Smith took the loss. He went two innings, surrendering five runs, eight hits, striking out two and walking zero. He allowed only four runs all season.

Kyler Essink and Ethan Harding each collected multiple hits for Bennington.

Auburn (14-11) advances to the second round and will play Springfield at 5 p.m. Sunday. The game will be broadcast on B103 (103.1 FM, and the B103 app).

Bennington falls to the consolation bracket and will play Aurora at 11 a.m. Sunday.
