Mendez to Swim for Nebraska Wesleyan

COLUMBUS – Said Mendez signed his letter of intent on Wednesday to swim at the collegiate level.

Mendez, a Columbus High Senior, signed with Nebraska Wesleyan University, and says he will be competing in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, as well as the butterfly. Mendez said after his visit he began feeling like UNW was the right fit for him.

“I’m excited to swim for Greg Flemming the coach, so they have a great swim team, they have a lot of new guys, and it’s a building program but I know we’re going to get far,” says Mendez.

CHS head swim coach Carrie Weihl says Mendez has made huge strides since his Freshman year, and has set himself up to be very successful in college.

“He always creates goals, and is never afraid to push himself to accomplish those goals, but he’s also a good role model and is a team player,” says Weihl.

Mendez says he hopes to pursue a career in athletic training or physical therapy after college.
