NORFOLK — Two accomplished Class C-2 football coaches will be pitted against each other in the 2018 Red vs. White Northeast Nebraska Football Classic.
According to the President of the Classic’s Board of Directors Tom Olson, Battle Creek head coach Andrew Carlson will lead the White team while Lutheran High Northeast head coach Darin Suckstorf will tutor the Red team. The 6th annual game will be on Saturday, June 9th at Veteran’s Memorial Field in Norfolk with kickoff scheduled for noon.
Olson, who is Norfolk High’s head coach, said in a news release that the Board is very enthusiastic about the coaching staffs.
“Both (coaches) are held in very high regard by their players, staffs and communities, and will be excellent representatives of the board of directors and our sponsors,” Olson said.
Both coaches have experience with the event as Carlson was an assistant for the White team in 2014 and Suckstorf worked with the Reds in 2015.
Carlson has spent 13 years at Battle Creek and served as the Braves’ head coach for six seasons. Under his leadership, Battle Creek has won three district championships and has made five straight trips to the state semifinals.
Suckstof has led the LHNE program since 2007. In his 11 years he has led the Eagles to five playoff appearances including a trip to the state semifinals.
Olson also announced the officials for the game. The five man crew which was voted on by the Board includes: Daryl Lindsay, Referee, Wayne; Jason Beiermann, Umpire, Wayne; Rod Meier, Head Linesman, Norfolk; Steve Martini, Line Judge, Hartington; and Matt Sayler, Back judge, Hartington.
