NEBRASKA CITY – Both Falls City Sacred Heart teams, Lourdes Central Catholic boys and the Friend girls will battle for the Pioneer Conference Tournament Crown on Saturday night at Nebraska City Lourdes High School.

Sacred Heart seniors Abby Fiegener and Sara Wertenberger each had a game-high 12 points and the Class D2 #1 Irish (20-0) beat Johnson-Brock (12-8), 52-28, in one of the girls semi-finals Thursday at Lourdes High School. Wertenberger finished with five rebounds.

The Irish will play Class D1 #8 Friend (17-3) at 6:30 on Saturday night. The Bulldogs held Lourdes Central Catholic (11-9) to just 13 points, including a scoreless fourth period, and blew out the Knights, 56-13. Senior Raeleigh Menke led all scores with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Class D2 #1 Falls City Sacred Heart and Lourdes Central Catholic will collide for the boys championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tri County (14-5) junior Creighton Niemeyer took an off-balanced three-point shot at the horn, but it missed short and the Irish escaped the #10 team in Class D1 with a 45-43 victory. Niemeyer finished with a game-high 19 points and added three rebounds. Sacred Heart (18-1)was led by the 18 points and six rebounds from sophomore Tyler Witt.

Already down a man due to illness (Ben Miller), Nebraska City Lourdes saw their junior guard Colter Fulton exit the game with a season-ending fractured ankle and elbow injury just 90 seconds into the game vs. Johnson-Brock. Senior Brandon Fredrichs and the Knights (12-6) responded with their 10th-straight win over the Eagles, 56-46.

Fredrichs finished with a double-double, 20 points and 12 rebounds (both game-highs). Two other Lourdes players finished in double figures. Senior Quinten Vasa added 12 and fellow senior Neilas Tamosiunas chipped in 10.

The Eagles (15-5), who haven’t beat the Knights since Dec. 17, 2012, were led by junior Cole Fossenbarger. He finished with 18 points.
