AUBURN – Syracuse starting pitcher Sam Goering had his no-hitter broken when Falls City’s Nick Novak singled in the seventh inning, but that would be the only hit Goering would allow in Post 100’s 8-2 victory in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Nebraska Baseball Conference Tournament Wednesday night.
Goering gave up two runs and struck out two in his second win of the season.
Mitchell McWilliams finished 2-4 at the plate with a two-run home run, two runs scored and three RBI’s. Syracuse tallied nine total hits.
Trevor Brinkman also homered for Post 100. He took the first pitch he saw deep in the first inning for a solo shot. Christian Frederick went 3-4 with triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Meanwhile, Nebraska City starting pitcher Garrett Bassinger allowed just two hits and struck out nine over 4.2 innings in Post 8’s win over Auburn, 5-3, in the other quarterfinal matchup at Tushla Field in Auburn.
