SPRINGFIELD – The Platteview volleyball team snapped Syracuse’s seven-match win streak Thursday night in five sets at Platteview High School.
The Trojans took advantage of Rockets passing and serving errors to win the first set, 25-21, in a matchup of Capitol Conference foes.
In the second and third sets, it seemed like Syracuse had solved those issues and gained the momentum back by taking those sets, 25-7, 25-17 to gain a 2-1 match advantage. However, some of those same issues crept up in the 4th set again for the Rockets as Platteview won, 25-21.
The fifth set was fairly even until the front line of the Trojans blocked 3 straight Syracuse attacks to take a 13-8 lead. The Rockets made one last run to close the match to 14-13, but a service error by Syracuse ended their comeback and allowed Platteview to win the match, 3-2.
With the loss, the Rockets fall to 7-1 this season and will be in action on Saturday in the Fairbury Invite.
The Trojans win puts them at 6-6 on the season and they will be at Blair on Tuesday.
