Trio of southeast Nebraska volleyball teams begin state tournament runs on Thursday

LINCOLN – Three southeast Nebraska volleyball teams will compete in the 2018 Nebraska School Activities State Volleyball Championships next week in Lincoln after winning their respective district final match-ups on Saturday.

Syracuse (26-3) will be the No. 6 seed in the Class C1 bracket. They Rockets will No. 3 St. Paul (33-1) at Lincoln North Star on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Syracuse swept Malcolm, 3-0, Saturday to qualify for their first state tournament in five seasons.

In Class D1, three-time defending champions Johnson-Brock (29-3) will be the No. 2 seed and play No. 7 Cambridge (25-5) at Lincoln East on Thursday night at 7:30. The Eagles defeated Meridian, 3-1, in the D1-2 District Final on Saturday.

Falls City Sacred Heart beat Kenesaw, 3-1, to advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2013. The Irish are the No. 8 seed and will play No. 1 Ewing at Lincoln Southeast at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
