Tynon’s 230th win gives Lourdes a chance to defend back-to-back titles

ELKHORN – In a rematch of the 2016 Class D1 state title game, the outcome was the same for the Lourdes Central Catholic boys basketball team: a win.

The Knights defeated Walthill, 65-54, Tuesday night at Elkhorn South High School to claim the Class D1-2 district crown and qualify for their third-straight state tournament.

Senior Brandon Fredrichs finished with a game-high 19 points playing off the bench for Nebraska City Lourdes. Fellow senior Quinten Vasa had a double-double – 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Blujays were led by freshman Kaden Sheridan, who finished with 14 points.

The Knights improve to 18-8 and will have an opportunity to go for three state titles in-a-row at next week’s Nebraska School Activities Association State Basketball Championships in Lincoln. The tournament runs from Mar. 8-10. It was also head coach Joe Tynon’s 230th career win.

Fans will be able to follow Lourdes Central Catholic’s journey to three-straight championships with News Channel Nebraska. Listen to their games live on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM, B103 and/or ncn21.com.

Walthill finishes the season at 15-7.
