Home Federal Goes Undefeated Over Weekend
Home Federal improves to 23-6 on the season after an undefeated weekend.

GRAND ISLAND – Home Federal’s winning streak has extended to eight games after another strong weekend of play.

The Grand Island seniors went 4-0 with victories over Lincoln High and Lincoln Southeast on Saturday, followed by a doubleheader sweep of Fremont on Sunday.

A four-run seventh inning was the difference in Home Federal’s 8-4 win over Lincoln High. Trey Randall led Grand Island at the plate by going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and also scored twice and drew a walk. Shay Schanaman (2-for-4, R) and Casey Burnham (2-for-4) also had two base hits while Will Nordhues (1-for-2, 2 RBI, BB) drove in two runs. Bryce Williams went six innings on the mound and struck out five and walked one while allowing four runs. Tucker Krzycki entered in the seventh and struck out two to get credit for the win.

A three-run rally in the top of the seventh gave Home Federal a 3-2 win over Lincoln Southeast. Singles by Krzycki (2-for-2, R, BB), Randall (2-for-3, R), and Nordhues (1-for-2, R, RBI, BB) set up a bases loaded opportunity with two outs for Shanaman (1-for-4, 2 RBI) who singled to bring home the tying and eventual winning run. Gage Rose got the start and pitched six innings and sat down five while walking three on four hits. Ryan Krolikowski came in to pitch a scoreless seventh while striking out one and walking on to get the win.

Grand Island outscored Fremont a combined 24-5 in their doubleheader on Sunday. Home Federal took the first game 12-3 with Tyler Sextro pitching six full innings while striking our six and walking one. Burnham (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R), Schanaman (2-for-4, 2 R) and Matt Lamb (2-for-3, RBI, R) all notched two hits.

Home Federal took the second game 12-2. Will Nordhues went all five innings and struck out two on four hits. Alberto Ortega went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Lamb and Burnham each went 2-for-4.

Grand Island next faces Hastings Five Points Bank on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on NCN channel 30.1 and streamed online at NCNSportsNow.com with live coverage beginning at 7:30 PM.
