CRETE – The Doane Football team released its 2019 football schedule on Monday afternoon.

The Tigers will open their schedule at home on Thursday, Aug. 29 against Ottawa University (Arizona) under the lights.

Kickoff in the season opener is set for 7 p.m. This will mark Doane’s first night game at home since 2014. It’s also the first home game on a Thursday since Nov. 11th, 1948 – that’s when the stadium was dedicated.

The following week, Doane will hit the road to face rival Concordia on Saturday, Sept. 7th. That will also be a night game with kickoff set for 6 p.m. The rest of the schedule looks like this:

  • Sept. 14 – BYE
  • Sept. 21 – @ Briar Cliff (TBA)
  • Sept. 28 – Hastings College (1 p.m.)
  • Oct. 5 – @ Dakota Wesleyan (TBA)
  • Oct. 12 – Jamestown (1 p.m.)
  • Oct. 19 – Dordt College (1 p.m.)
  • Oct. 26 – @ Northwestern College (TBA)
  • Nov. 2 – Morningside College (1 p.m.) – Senior Day
  • Nov. 9 – @ Midland (TBA)

Every game will be carried live on Ol’ Red 99.5, with pregame coverage starting 30 minutes before kickoff.

Schedule notes

Back-to-back night games to open the season will generate a lot of excitement. Doane is hosting Hastings and Jamestown for the second straight season, and are also traveling to Dakota Wesleyan and Northwestern College for a second straight year.

As for the Thursday opener, the Doane Athletics Twitter page posted a poll on Mar. 29, asking fans if they’d be cool with a Thursday game instead of Saturday.

The response was pretty positive.

The Tigers are holding their spring game this week at Al Papik Field.

The game was moved from Thursday to Wednesday to beat the bad weather. Warmups on Wednesday will start at 4:10 with the scrimmage to follow.
