Former Husker Named Schuyler Head Football Coach

SCHUYLER – A former Husker will be taking the reins of the Schuyler Warriors’ football team next season.

Schuyler Community Schools announced on Twitter Monday night that Jason Ankrah has been hired as the new Head Football Coach of the Schuyler Warriors. Schuyler finished the 2018 season 1-8, winning their final game of the year over South Sioux City.

Ankrah started 31 games as a defensive end for Nebraska between 2010 – 2013, playing in a total of 49. Ankrah recorded 36 tackles, four sacks, and one interception in his senior season, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mentions from both coaches and media in 2013.

After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, Ankrah was signed by the Houston Texans in May 2014, before being released in August 2015. Ankrah was signed to the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad in September 2015, and also played for the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks in 2017.

Ankrah served as an assistant coach last year for Lincoln Pius X, who finished the season at 5-4. Ankrah will be replacing Aaron Thumann as the Schuyler Head Football Coach.
