Anthens drives in two, Nebraska City evens record at .500

SYRACUSE – Mackenzie Anthens drove in a pair of runs and the Nebraska City softball team finished 2-0 this week with a 5-2 win over Syracuse Thursday.

Anthens, Trisha Trice and Taylor Moyer each had multiple hits for the Pioneers, who finished with nine total.

Nebraska City took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Liz Hodges. They would never trail throughout the game.

Sydney Schmitz was credited with the victory in the circle. She threw a complete game, allowing two runs on 12 hits while striking out four.

Sydney Wellsandt allowed five runs on nine hits in seven innings in the loss. She struck out two.

Syracuse totaled 12 hits. Megan Reuter went 3-4.

The Pioneers improve to 7-7 and will host Conestoga (4-9) on Monday, while the Rockets (4-10) will be at Class C1 #2 Bishop Neumann (14-3).
