Auburn to Play in First State Tournament Since 2001

AUBURN, Neb. – The Auburn Junior American Legion Baseball team will play in a state tournament for first time in 16 years.

Auburn (13-11) opens the 2017 Class B State Tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Area 3 champion Bennington (27-5) at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City.

Head Coach Mike Henrichs says a big key to Saturday’s game will be his team’s mental preparedness, because, according to Henrichs, baseball is a game against yourself.

“It’s basically nine guys against one in many situations, especially on defense. It’s just a matter of coming together with one common goal and just putting it all together.”

It’s the second-straight season where Auburn finished as the runner-up in the Area 1 Tournament. They fell to Nebraska City on Tuesday in the championship game in Falls City, but qualify for the state tournament, because Nebraska City is hosting. The host team automatically qualifies in American Legion Baseball.

News Channel Nebraska will follow Auburn through the state tournament. Listen to their games live on B103 (103.1 FM, and the B103 app).
