FALLS CITY, NE – Trent Fahey pitched a complete game shutout and the Nebraska City Junior Legion baseball team advanced to the Class B Area 1 Tournament Championship Game with an 11-0 win over Auburn Sunday afternoon at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field in Falls City.
Fahey threw six innings, struck out six and gave up only two hits.
Fahey also gave the Post 8 Juniors the early lead with an RBI single with two outs in the first inning. Bryce Levy added an RBI double in the opening frame.
Levy, Dylan Knoell, and Fahey each collected two hits and Nebraska City finished with nine total.
Top-seed Nebraska City (26-2) will play for the tournament title on Tuesday against either Beatrice or Auburn. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Beatrice stays alive, eliminates Falls City
FALLS CITY, NE – The Falls City Junior Legion baseball team was eliminated from the Class B Area 1 Tournament Sunday night after a 6-1 loss to Beatrice at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field in Falls City.
It was the second time Beatrice topped Falls City in the tournament. On Saturday, Beatrice beat the Blue Storm in the first round, 5-2.
In the fourth inning, Beatrice’s Matthew Jobman hit an RBI double off of Falls City pitcher Drew Bippes. Beatrice would take the lead for good, adding another run on an error.
Beatrice scored four more runs in the sixth inning. The big inning came thanks to a single by Zach Zimmerman and a double by Ben Meints.
Zach Hoffman went the whole way on the mound, surrendering one run, three hits and striking out eight.
Bippes took the loss for Falls City. He tossed five and a third innings, surrendering six runs on five hits, and striking out five.
Matthew Jobman finished 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Beatrice.
Beatrice will play Auburn in the consolation semi-finals on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Falls City. The winner will play Nebraska City for the tournament championship on Tuesday.
Falls City finishes the season 10-14.
