NEBRASKA CITY – A pair of former Nebraska City High School and Legion Baseball players will revisit Clemmy Holmes Field on Monday and Tuesday.
Freshman Brennen Bales and Jared Nemec, and the Northeast Community College (Norfolk, Neb.) baseball team (15-21-1) will play Iowa Lakes Community College in a four-game series Monday and Tuesday in Nebraska City. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Norfolk, but the city dealt with 4.5 inches of snow over the weekend.
Bales, who is listed as a first basemen and pitcher for the Hawks, has seven of the team’s 51 home runs this season. He finished his Pioneer career with a .364 batting average with 92 hits, 42 RBI’s, 51 runs, 6 home runs, 3 triples, and 13 doubles. He struck out only 17 times in four years. On the mound, Bales registered 80 strikeouts in 71.1 innings, gave up 15 earned runs and finished with an ERA of 1.47.
Nemec is also listed as a pitcher. He finished his Nebraska City High School career with a 3.46 ERA in 16 appearances, with 50 strikeouts, 29 earned runs and 58 hits. He hit .247 at the plate, with 23 RBI’s, 11 runs, 2 home runs, a triple and 5 doubles.
Former Pioneer player and coach Bladen Bales is now an assistant with Northeast Community College.
Monday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., but could begin at 4 p.m. depending on field conditions. Tuesday’s games are set to begin at 1 p.m.
