Cheslor Cuthbert, Brett Phillips supply power as Storm Chasers stop Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Omaha Storm Chasers took control with two swings Tuesday night to end April with a victory.

Omaha got a two-run double from Cheslor Cuthbert and a three-run home run from Brett Phillips in a five-run third inning, and the Chasers beat the Nashville Sounds 9-4 in Pacific Coast League action.

The big inning gave the Chasers a 6-2 lead. Starter Foster Griffin gave up two runs in the second inning but otherwise kept the Sounds in check as he improved to 2-1. Griffin, a first-round pick in 2014, allowed six hits and two walks and struck out seven in six innings.

The Chasers scored on an error in the top of the first, then took the lead for good in the third. They added three runs in the sixth, all with two outs.

Cuthbert was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, and Phillips and Humberto Arteaga had two hits apiece for the Chasers, who meet Nashville again Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
