Class B Title Game Features Rematch Between Nebraska City and Omaha Roncalli

ALLIANCE, Neb. – The Nebraska City American Legion baseball team will play for the Class B State Championship for the first time since 2010.

The Post 8 Seniors defeated Wahoo, 4-2, in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday afternoon at Bower-Shankland Field in Alliance.

Wahoo captured the lead first in the opening inning. With two outs, Blake Kaiser drove in one run when he singled.

With the game tied at two and Nebraska City batting in the bottom of the fifth, Sheridan Silvius brought in the go-ahead runs when he hit a two-RBI single off of Brenton Davis.

Garrett Bassinger earned his second win of the tournament. He threw seven innings, allowed two runs on four hits, and struck out eight Wahoo batters.

Davis was on the losing end, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out eight in six innings.

Bassinger, Silvius, Andrew Harrah, Noah Kasbohm, Jared Nemec, Jake Kreifel and Trey Denniston each collected one hit for Post 8.

To claim the Class B title, Nebraska City must beat Omaha Roncalli twice on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. MT, 4 p.m. CT and will air on B103 (103.1 FM, and the B103 app.)

Nebraska City last appeared in the championship game in 2009 and 2010, when they finished runner-up after losses to Gretna both seasons.

Ronalli pitcher Nathaniel Gorczyca pitched a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Nebraska City on Sunday.

Gering Finishes 30-Win Season at State Tournament

ALLIANCE, Neb. – Omaha Roncalli secured an 11-1 victory over Gering Tuesday night and will go into Wednesday’s championship vs. Nebraska City with a 4-0 record. It was the third-straight game Roncalli 10-run ruled their opponent.

Singles by Andrew Gurnon and Justin Niederle helped Roncalli widen the gap with six runs in the fourth inning.

Andrew Fox threw six innings, allowed just one run on five hits, and struck out two in the victory.

Gering’s Dalton Scott took the loss after pitching three innings. He allowed six runs on three hits, and had one strike out. He had given up one run on one hit going into the fourth inning.

Roncalli finished with 12 hits in the game. Thomas Alitz finished 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
