Clutch Free Throw Shooting Late Carries Norfolk to Fourth Straight Win

NORFOLK – Usually when a team doesn’t score a field goal in the fourth quarter, they don’t end up liking the result.

But in Norfolk’s case it worked out well. The Panthers shot 18-of-20 in the fourth quarter from the free throw line, using that clutch shooting to hold off Class A #10 Grand Island 62-56.

The game had been close, with both teams trading leads into the fourth quarter. Then after Matt Hagedorn was fouled by Lebeck Warren, Warren was also called for a technical foul. Hagedorn made all four free throws, beginning a 10-for-10 stretch for him from the charity stripe in the final frame.

The win was Norfolk’s 14th straight against Grand Island, a win streak that dates back to January of 2008.
