Discoverers Drop Northwest to Remain Unbeaten

COLUMBUS – The Discoverers have passed their first true test of the season.

Columbus High hosted Northwest on Friday and handed the Vikings their first loss of the season with a 48-30 victory.

Michael Koch was unstoppable on the ground as the senior quarterback rushed for scored from 37, 28, and 18 yards en route to a 165 yard rushing performance. Koch also threw for 203 yards.

Juan Leon punched in three short-yardage scores while the final Columbus TD was a Nathan Slursarki 76-yard pick-six to put the game to bed.

Northwest’s Carter Terry threw for 290 yards and two scores. Danny Fisher caught a 17-yard strike to put the Viking up 17-7 in the second quarter, while Riley Schliep caught a 32-yarder up the sideline as part of Northwest’s comeback attempt. The Vikings other touchdown came from a an Adam Cooper 1-yard run. Cooper finished with 75 yards in the game.
