Fremont-Mills looking to stay afloat near top of RPI rankings

TABOR – Sophomore Seth Malcom rushed for 201 yards on 17 carries and senior Jaeger Powers added 11 carries for 127 yards, and the Fremont-Mills football team remained unbeaten with a 62-3 victory over East Mills on Friday.

The Knights, who are 6-1 this season and ranked #2 in the latest World-Herald News Service rankings, finished with 526 total rushing yards.

Head Coach Jeremy Christiansen credited Malcom, Powers and the offensive line for a great performance, but would like to see more execution and planning in the passing game.

It’ll be tough for Fremont-Mills to make adjustments to their passing game this week as they prepare for a Corner Conference clash with Sidney on Friday at 7 p.m. The National Weather Service is calling for rain showers through Wednesday morning, with a break in the moisture until Thursday night into Friday.

The forecast has forced the Knights to practice inside this week and Christiansen says it’s even put a damper on the annual rivalry. However, the Knights know how important the final two games of the regular season are.

“We’ve got to, obviously, take care of business with the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) since it’s come out. We’ve been in playoff mode since week three. We just got to continue to do our job. Try to make sure the RPI is in our hands and (Friday) is another night for that. We’re very excited.”

Fremont-Mills currently sits in 10th in the RPI rankings. Sidney is tied for 27th.

The Cowboys (4-3) are coming off a loss to Stanton (Fremont-Mills opponent next week), 48-26.
