AUBURN – The Hickman Junior Legion Baseball team tallied 12 unanswered runs to defeat Auburn, 12-4, Tuesday evening in the Area B1 Tournament Championship at Tushla Field in Auburn.
Cade Baker’s single in the bottom of the fourth scored two runs and Hickman completed a four-run comeback. Grant Papenhagen gave them the lead for good in the fifth when he drove in a run on a single.
Hickman totaled 13 hits. Baker, Papenhagen, Zane Layden and Connor Price all managed multiple hits.
Noah Baumann earned the victory on the mound. He gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out four. Leyden threw two innings in relief.
Auburn got on the board first in the opening inning when Brandon Lavigne singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
TJ Roybal and Brody Darnell had multiple hits in the game. Auburn finished with eight total.
Hickman advances to the Junior Legion State Tournament in Columbus, July 14-18.
Auburn finishes the season with a record of 20-5.
