SPENCER, NE – The Osmond Tigers withstood a 14-point rally from the Boyd County Spartans to win 42-40 on Tuesday night.
After holding just a 17-16 lead at halftime, Osmond (2-0) took control in the third quarter. The Tigers outscored the Spartans (1-1) 18-6 in the frame to take a 35-22 advantage.
The Spartans recovered from their slump in the fourth quarter. They tightened their defense and started to turn turnovers into points. They also forced Tigers starters Justus Maertins and Graysen Schultze to foul out. Boyd County cut their deficit to just two points within the final minute. But Tigers star Merrix Denn hit two free throws to built the lead back to two possessions. Boyd County scored as time expired to make it a two-point loss.
Denn paced the Tigers with 21 points while Evan Reiman led the Spartans with 12.
Next, Osmond goes to Wynot on Friday and Boyd County hosts Crofton on Thursday.
