WAKEFIELD, NE — The Ponca Indians grabbed a big lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 59-39 win over the Wakefield/Allen Lady Trojans on Tuesday night.
The Indians’ (10-2) full-court pressure was smothering the entire game. They forced more than 20 turnovers and made it difficult for Wakefield/Allen (3-7) to get any good looks, especially in the first quarter. Ponca owned a 17-2 lead after the first eight minutes.
Wakefield/Allen found some offense in the second quarter but Ponca continues to put up points in bunches. The Indians held a 35-14 advantage at the break.
The Indians unloaded their bench in the second half but inserted the starting five at strategic points to focus on working their offensive sets.
Ponca has won five games in a row. The Lady Trojans lost their two-game win streak with the defeat.
