NORFOLK, NE — Corbin Foster drilled two home runs and the Kearney Bearcats beat Norfolk 8-5 on Saturday night.
The come-from-behind win capped a memorable day for Kearney (12-7) and Foster. The Bearcats beat Omaha South 16-3 earlier in the day on the strength of another homer from Foster – the first long ball of his career.
Foster got Kearney on the board in the first inning. The lefty pulled a solo shot over the right-field fence.
Norfolk (7-10) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. Wil Fisher singled home Brett O’Brien to tie the game. Three batters later, Nolan strand smacked a two-out, two-run double to open up a 3-1 lead for the Panthers.
After Kearney scored on an error in the third, Norfolk built the lead back up in the bottom of the inning. Fisher sent Colby Mrsny home on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
The Bearcats drew closer in the fifth. Mason Casper and Korben Rich each singled and Casper eventually scored on another error to drop their deficit to one run.
Foster delivered the lead with another home run in the sixth. He went opposite field for this third dinger of the day establishing a 5-4 lead.
Kearney tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh and Norfolk managed a run in the bottom half to finish the game 8-5.
Chandler Welker (3-1) earned the win after allowing just one run in five innings of relief. Norfolk’s Jalen Driscoll (2-2) took the hard-luck loss after lasting 5.1 innings.
