COLUMBUS – The Lakeview Vikings are 3-0 to begin the 2018 season, and coach Kurt Frenzen credits a couple of key areas to the Vikings early season success.
Frenzen says that his team has been able to win the turnover battle so far this year, creating them on defense, and taking care of the ball on offense. Frenzen also says that solid special teams play has been just as big of a factor in contributing to the Vikings’ success.
Lakeview dominated in their season opener with a 55-0 win over Fillmore Central, where they lead 45-0 after the first half. The Vikings followed that performance with a pair of road victories against Douglas County West and Boone Central/Newman Grove.
Frenzen says that the Vikings aren’t trying to get too fancy with any of their schemes, instead focusing on “getting better at being us.” Frenzen thinks that strategy will be the key moving forward, and that the Vikings are just trying to get better at what they do best.
The Vikings will be back home this week against the 2-1 Wayne Blue Devils, who have won their last two games against O’Neill and Arlington after losing their season opener against Wahoo. This will be one of the last non-district games for Lakeview before beginning District 4 play against Bishop Neumann next week.
