SYRACUSE – Braydan Hlavac smashed two home runs, drove-in four runs and scored three times, and the Louisville/Weeping Water Legion Baseball team defeated Syracuse, 9-5, Wednesday night. Hlavac finished 3-4 at the plate.
Hlavac’s two-run home run in the first inning came off his first pitch. Louisville/Weeping Water scored two more runs in the second inning on an RBI single from Mason Heath and a wild pitch to Treyton Savage. Louisville/Weeping Water gathered eight total hits.
Syracuse tallied three runs in the fifth inning. The offense in the frame was led by Zane Weiler, Izaak Prater and Mitchell McWilliams, who each drove-in runs in the inning. Syracuse finished with 12 total hits. Brendon Lyon went 3-3 with a double an RBI and a run scored.
Mason Maher was credited with the win. He went five innings, allowed four runs on 11 hits, struck out three and had no walks. Hlavac threw the last six outs to earn the save. He allowed one run and struck out four.
Louisville/Weeping Water’s next Southeast Nebraska Baseball Conference game will be on Tuesday when they host Tecumseh.
Syracuse falls to 7-4 and will be at Parkview Christian on Friday.
Springfield scores 12 runs in three innings to comeback to defeat Falls City
FALLS CITY – Springfield scored runs in the final three innings to comeback from a 4-0 deficit and beat Falls City, 12-4 in five innings, Wednesday night at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field.
Jake Craig began the scoring for the Blue Storm on an RBI single on a 2-2 count in the opening inning. They would add three more runs in the second inning on RBI’s from James Eickhoff and Kade Bredemeier.
The game was tied at four in the top of the fourth inning when Springfield’s Jordan Matthewson hit an RBI double on a 2-2 count. Springfield scored seven more runs in the fifth inning. Matthewson, Caden Matthewson, Nathan Michaels, Grant Thomas and Ryan Roeslef all drove-in runs.
Jordan Matthewson finished 3-3 with three doubles five RBI’s and a run scored. Springfield collected nine total hits.
Roeslef was on the hill for Springfield. He surrendered four runs on four hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one.
Craig started the game for Falls City. He surrendered five runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two.
Falls City drops to 4-4 and will be at Doniphan West, Kan. tonight (Thursday).
Nebraska City 8, Seward 7
Seward scored five runs in the top of the seventh, but Nebraska City escaped with their third win of the season. Clay Stovall went 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Dylan Knoell struck out six in the victory on the mound.
