Legion baseball roundup: Kreifel and Silvius drive Nebraska City to 12th win; Falls City falls to second-straight Kansas team

NEBRASKA CITY, NE – Jake Kreifel and Sheridan Silvius each drove in two runs and the Nebraska City American Legion Baseball team jumped out to an early lead in their 6-4 win over Waverly Wednesday at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City.

The Post 8 Seniors collected 11 hits. Silvius, Garrett Bassinger, Kreifel, and Brennen Bales each had multiple hits.

Pitcher Jared Nemec earned the win, throwing six innings, giving up four runs, six hits and striking out five.

Nebraska City (12-3) will host Falls City (3-7) Thursday night. First pitch for the juniors is at 5:30, with the seniors to follow around 8 p.m.

The Nebraska City junior team (15-1) grabbed an early lead on it’s way to their 15th win of the season with an 8-2 victory over Waverly. The Post 8 Juniors scored on singles by Max Chaney and Skyler Self in the second inning.

Blue Storm can’t hold-up against Doniphan County, KS

FALLS CITY, NE – Doniphan County, KS handed the Falls City American Legion Baseball team their seventh loss Wednesday night, 5-2 at Southeast Communications Field in Falls City.

Doniphan County took an early lead in the first inning on a Tyler Franken RBI single. The Blue Storm knotted the game at one in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, , Parker Thompson drove in one run on a single.

In the third inning, Doniphan County took the lead for good, adding a run on an RBI double by Brody Winden. They would add three more runs in the fifth.

Winden pitched a complete game win, giving up two runs, eight hits and striking out 14.

Collin Cook took the loss. He went six innings, allowing five runs, eight hits and striking out six.

Craig and Thompson each collected two hits to lead Falls City, which finished with eight total.

Doniphan County also had eight hits. Reid Greaser, Winden, and Franken each collected multiple hits. Smith led the team with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day.

Falls City drops to 3-7 this season and will travel to Nebraska City to play Post 8 Thursday night at 8 p.m. The juniors game will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Falls City’s junior legion team (7-7) defeated Doniphan County, 6-2, thanks to a strong start. The Blue Storm scored on singles by Zach Beaver and Braden Oliver in the first inning.
