JOHNSON, NE – Summer vacation may have just started at Johnson-Brock High School, but the new activities director is already “pretty excited” to begin the new school year in August.
Landonn Mackey announced on Twitter last week he has accepted the AD position for the Eagles, saying he is “excited for the next step in my career. We have a great group of AD’s in our conference and will be good to work with. Go Eagles!
Mackey says being a part of the Johnson-Brock school system for five years has made the transition to his new responsibilities easier than it would have been if he were in a new school community.
“Community support is tremendous. We have great students. Our staff is wonderful and supportive. The transition has been great. I have received nothing but positive comments about it. I look forward to getting to work more with everybody outside of the school, as well.”
Mackey replaces Tim Newman and takes over an athletics program that claimed their second-straight volleyball championship last fall, a football playoff berth and just missing the state tournament in boys basketball. Newman served as the activities director for two years and will remain with the school in a different role.
Mackey remain an assistant coach on the football team and will continue his head coaching duties for the girls basketball team.
