NORFOLK, NE — Hanna Neesen scored 12 points in the first half and the Norfolk Catholic Lady Knights dismantled the Madison Dragons 54-32 in the first round of subdistrict play Monday night. The Knights (11-11) advance to face #7 Clarkson/Leigh in the semifinals.
Norfolk Catholic opened the game hot and quickly built a 12-2 lead. The Knights’ defense stifled Madison (2-21) early leading to an 18-8 lead after one quarter.
They stayed steady through the second quarter. Neesen hit two three-pointers and made four free throws in the first half to pace the Knights. Carly Marshall and Emily Faltys joined the three-point parade in the first half. Norfolk Catholic led 35-14 at half.
The Knights’ defense stayed strong in the second half, holding Madison scoreless for the first 4:11 of the third quarter. They played mostly reserves in the fourth quarter to coast to the 26-point win.
The Dragons broke their trend and started all three of their seniors in the game. Riley Jurgens scored seven of her nine points in the second half while Haley Butts scored a season-high 10 points.
