RALSTON – The Ralston baseball team scored five unanswered runs and Mitch Novy hit a walk-off single, scoring Darrien Costello, to send the Rams past Plattsmouth, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Orval Smith Field in Ralston.
The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, but was moved to Wednesday due to the chance of inclement weather over the weekend.
Hunter Adkins broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when he roped a double (his first hit of the season), scoring Aaronn Aho. The Blue Devils would add three more runs in the sixth on two Ralston errors, a sacrifice squeeze bunt and a sacrifice fly.
The Rams scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jahrran Paces scored on a passed ball and Jared Urbach scored the second run when Zane Harris hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Michael Heig had the only hit of the inning, smacking an RBI singly to right field to score Novy. Heig would eventually come around to score on a Plattsmouth error.
Tyler Lux got the start for Ralston. He went four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out seven. Parker Clapp earned the win out of the bullpen. He went three innings and did not give up an earned run.
Draven Ray gave up four hits, no runs and struck out eight for the Blue Devils, but due to the pitch count rule, he had to exit the game. Josh Aho would finish it for Plattsmouth.
Ralston now sits at 4-3 on the year and will host Blair Thursday at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils are 1-6 and will travel to Omaha Northwest on Friday.
