Stahlecker’s Outside Shooting Keys Boyd County to 2-0 Start

SPENCER – In basketball there’s something known as the shooter’s mentality.

Boyd County’s Emma Stahlecker, who shot 4-of-9 from the 3-point line Saturday and finished with 14 points, summed it up well after the Spartans’ 55-20 win over Wausa.

“I go by Coach’s saying: ‘When a shooter’s on, they shoot. When they’re not on…they keep shooting,'” Stahlecker said. “I’m a shooter. I just keep shooting and don’t ever give up.”

That mentality is reflected across the entire Boyd County squad, who hoisted 24 3-pointers on Saturday. Coach Jeff Hart said that mentality is what helped Boyd County break the game open in the 2nd quarter.

“We kept making our shots and our defense played better in the later quarters,” Hart said.

Hart said Boyd County broke out their full-court press for the first time, which forced 27 Wausa turnovers. They also out-rebounded the Vikings 35-21.
