WAYNE – College sports fans in Nebraska are finding themselves cheering for a legit national championship contender.
No, not that team that lost in Minneapolis on Saturday.
The Wayne State women’s rugby team opened the 2017 NSCRO national championship with a dominant 69-0 victory over SUNY-Oneonta.
The victory moves the Wildcats to the Elite Eight on Sunday, where they’ll face Colorado College.
WSC is the defending national champion, and is looking to add a seventh national championship trophy to their mantle this season.
The Lady ‘Cats will play at 11 a.m. at the House of Pain Rugby Field in Wayne on Sunday. The WSC men also begin their postseason in Wayne at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Creighton.
