Wemhoff, St. Francis fly through Sacred Heart onto semifinals

FALLS CITY – Junior running back Taylor Wemhoff ran for 113 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown, while also returning two kicks for scores, and No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis eliminated No. 5 Falls City Sacred Heart from the postseason Tuesday, 54-36.

Junior quarterback Trevor Pfeifer was 6-12 for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown. The Flyers averaged 85 yards per game through the air coming into the Nebraska School Activities Association Class D2 quarterfinals.

Pfeifer’s top target was senior fullback Jarrett Weidner. He caught five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including a one-handed grab for a 52-yard score.

St. Francis finished with 294 total yards and averaged 6.5 yards per play.

The Irish totaled 344 yards and 5.5 yards per play.

Senior quarterback Drew Bippes was 29-45 for 302 yards and two scores. He also ran for a pair of touchdowns.

Bippes connected twice with junior Tyler Witt for touchdowns. Witt had 78 yards receiving on 9 catches. Junior Jake Hoy caught 7 passes for 80 yards, while junior Jarrot Simon added 71 yards on 8 receptions.

Hoy returned a kickoff for a score from 79 yards out in the first quarter.

Sacred Heart was penalized 9 times for 57 yards and gave up 5 sacks.

Humphrey St. Francis improves to 11-0 and will host No. 2 Johnson-Brock (11-0) on Monday. Kickoff time has not been announced. The game will air on B103 (103.1 FM, b103.fm and ncnsportsnow.com).

The Irish finish the season at 9-2 after qualifying for the postseason for the 32nd straight season.
