PERU – The Peru State College football team announced Thursday morning they have removed the interim tag on Jake Adams and named him a new assistant coach.
Adams spent last season as an interim running backs coach, replacing Derek Derr who accepted a coaching job in Poland. Adams will continue to coach the running backs.
“I am very excited to work with these great young men at a place I truly love. I hope we have as much fun as we did last year,” Adams said.
His coaching experience also includes being the running backs coach at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. and two seasons as a graduate assistant at William Penn.
“During his interim role, Coach Adams demonstrated a firm understanding of option football and did an outstanding job of coaching the running backs as demonstrated through their improvement in performance,” Head Coach Steve Schneider said. “His recruitment of student-athletes is a strength and he is a team player.”
Adams was a three-time all-conference selection while playing for the Statesmen. He was a first-team pick as a senior. He started his career at tight end before moving to tackle and guard. Adams earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from WPU in 2015 and his masters in business leadership.
