Dramatic Improvement for Bobcat Women’s Golf
Vivian Brown points to her fifth place score while holding her medal

LINCOLN –  When the Peru State women’s golf team left Peru on Thursday, they anticipated playing in much better conditions than they had the day before in their own tournament.

However, upon reaching Lincoln for the Kaitlyn Ericson/Doane Invitational, they were met with windy and cold conditions that were as challenging as the day before.

But, the Bobcats were up to the challenging as four of the six golfers improved upon their performance from Wednesday as the team finished fourth out of ten teams. Plus, they were just one stroke from tying for third.

Coach Steve Gossett was proud of the team’s efforts. Gossett noted, “The team battled through the conditions. They played much better than the day before and I am very proud of their efforts.”

Briar Cliff (Iowa) won the tournament with a team score of 322. Morningside (Iowa) – the winner of the Peru State tournament on Wednesday – was second with a score of 331. The College of St. Mary was third at 348 – one shot ahead of the fourth-place Bobcats.

Nebraska Wesleyan was fifth with a 357 while Dordt (Iowa) was sixth with a 360. The hosts were seventh with a 368 while Concordia was eighth with a 374 total. Mount Mary (S.D.) was ninth with a team total of 379 and a second team from Doane was tenth with a score of 416.

Freshman Vivian Brown (Wichita, Kan.) was Peru State’s top golfer and finished in a tie for fifth with an 82. Hannah Baldacci (Norfolk) tied for tenth with an 85 while Taylor Finke (Battle Creek) shot an 86 and tied for 15th.

Emily Whipple (Lincoln) was the Bobcats’ fourth scorer with a 97 and tied for 47th while Cathleen Marsh (Bellevue) tied for 49th with a score of 98.

Peru State will have just two meets remaining in their 2018 spring season. The Bobcats will compete next week on April 19 and 20 in the Concordia Bulldog Invitational which will be held in Lincoln.
