Fourth-Quarter Comeback Fuels Bellevue to win over Peru State

BELLEVUE – The Peru State women’s basketball team led 64-56 after three quarters but could not withstand the fourth-quarter charge by the host Bellevue Bruins Wednesday night.

The Bruins, now 5-1 overall, outscored the Bobcats 24-15 to claim an 80-79 win in the Lozier Activity Center on Bellevue’s campus. It was the third loss of the season for Peru State as they will look for their first win of 2018-19 Friday night.

Bellevue made 25 of 67 field goals for 37.3% which included making 8 of 18 from long range for 44.4%. From the free throw line, the Bruins made 22 of 30 for 73.3%. Peru State actually shot better than the Bruins as they hit 32 of 76 field goal attempts which included making 40% of their three-pointers as they made 6 of 15. The ‘Cats made 9 of 12 free throws for 75%.

Peru State had a huge rebounding edge as they grabbed 58 compared to 35.

Three Bobcats finished in double figures in scoring and were led by Giovanna Silva who scored 16 points.

Maria Alcantara finished with a double-double with 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Brooke Maeda dished out eight assists.

Peru State will host York Friday night at 5 p.m. in its “Cans for Cabinet” contest. The Panthers are presently 2-1 with both of their wins coming over Randall (Okla.).
