SEWARD – While the outcome was not what was desired, the performance was better in the Peru State women’s basketball team’s second game of the season.
The Doane Tigers topped the ‘Cats 72-63 in the second game of the Cattle Classic hosted by Concordia in Seward this past weekend.
Three Bobcats finished in double figures. Brooke Maeda led the team with 15 points.
Giovanna Silva nearly had a double double as she led the team with a game-high nine rebounds and 13 points.
With the win, Doane improved to 2-1 while the Bobcats fell to 0-2.
On Wednesday, the Bobcats will be in Bellevue to face the Bruins at 6 p.m. Bellevue has started the season with a 4-1 record.
NAIA #1 Concordia blows out Bobcats
SEWARD – If you want to become the best, at some time you have to play the best. That was the case for the Peru State women’s basketball team Friday night in their 2018-19 season opener.
The Bobcats were toppled by the NAIA Division II’s top-ranked team in the Cattle Classic in Seward, Neb. The host Concordia Bulldogs pulled away for a big 100-55 win over the ‘Cats.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season with the Bobcats falling to 0-1.
Concordia made 45% of its field goals as they connected on 36 of 80 in the game which included making 6 of 24 from long range for 25%.
Giovanna Silva led the Bobcats with nine points.
