Strong second half propels Peru State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 20-point advantage in the second half helped the Peru State men’s basketball team to their seventh win of the 2018-19 season. The Bobcats outscored the hosts Evangel Crusaders 49-29 in the second 20 minutes to claim an 86-63 win in Springfield, Mo., Saturday afternoon.

Lyle Hexom and Brandon Jones each had double-doubles. Hexom finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jones added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Terry Moore Jr. had a career-high 16 points.

With the win, the ‘Cats improved to 7-1 on the year and more importantly are now 4-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The Crusaders fell to 1-8 on the season and are 0-5 in conference action.

On Tuesday, the ‘Cats will be in Des Moines to face Grand View at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings are 4-5 on the season and are 1-4 in the Heart having lost their last three contests.

Evangel’s quick start dooms Peru State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 7-0 run to start the game propelled the Evangel Crusaders to gain their seventh win of the season with a victory over Peru State. The Crusaders went on to top the visiting Bobcats 81-62 Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

Only Alyssa Marsh-Contreras finished in double figures for Peru State as she had a game-high 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting.

Evangel improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The ‘Cats fell to 1-7 overall and are 0-4 in conference play.

This Tuesday, the ‘Cats will be in Des Moines to face Grand View at 5:30 p.m. The Vikings are 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Heart having grabbed a win over Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Saturday.
