LEXINGTON – It was all Minutemen from the jump, as Lexington won their season opener on Thursday night 74-35 over Gothenburg.
Lexington put the pressure on immediately, getting out to a 41-21 first-half lead off of stellar play from juniors Dylan Richman and Kaleb Carpenter. Richman had 20 first-half points, while Carpenter added 15 to lead Lexington to their huge lead.
The Minutemen followed up a stellar offensive half with a strong defensive third quarter, only allowing 5 Gothenburg points while increasing their advantage to 65-26. Lexington would finish it off in the fourth quarter, avenging last season’s 48-46 loss to the Swedes to begin the year.
Richman finished with 25 points, Carpenter ended his night with 17, and both Nick Saiz and Kobe Block added 7. Gothenburg was lead in scoring by Maguire Bartlett and Matt Shea, who each scored 6 points.
Lexington will now head on the road against Ogallala, while Gothenburg will head back home to take on Hershey.
