BEATRICE – It was a good day to be a batter at Christenson Field on Wednesday.
The Iowa Western Reivers scored a season-high 26 runs on 30 hits, and defeated the SCC Storm 26-9. It was the most runs allowed by the Storm this season, and the third time that the Reivers have scored 20+ runs this year.
The game was manageable heading into the top of the third inning, as the Storm found themselves trailing only 3-1. The Reivers then exploded for 11 runs in the inning, including two home runs from Mason Speirs and Jaden Rolffs.
The Reivers continued to pour it on, increasing their lead to 20-2 by the bottom of the fifth, but the Storm would then have a big inning of their own. The Storm put seven runs on the board in the frame, including a home run from Cade Moeller.
Iowa Western would then add a trio of two-run home runs in the sixth and seventh innings from Andrew Clark, Gibson Krzeminski, and Derek Shoen to firmly put the game in hand after seven innings. Overall, the Reivers hit seven home runs, while the Storm recorded homers from Moeller and Nick Hall.
The loss drops the SCC Storm to 13-22, as they will now embark on a 10-game road trip beginning this weekend against Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas. The victory by Iowa Western improved their record to 30-5, as they will next travel to Creston, Iowa to take on Southwestern Community College this weekend.
